The 2013 awards were presented during the Canadian Cancer Research Conference (CCRC) in Toronto during November. The following three individuals were recognized for their contributions.

Exceptional Leadership Award

Dr. Victor Ling (The Terry Fox Research Institute, BC Cancer Agency, and The University of British Columbia) received the award for Exceptional Leadership in Cancer Research. He has made outstanding contributions to the leadership of cancer research, including his role as the visionary inaugural leader of the Terry Fox Research Institute and his help in developing a Canadian strategy for cancer control. That strategy ultimately led to the formation of the Canadian Partnership Against Cancer.

Outstanding Achievements Award

Dr. John E. Dick (Princess Margaret Cancer Centre—University Health Network, University of Toronto, and the Ontario Institute for Cancer Research) received the award for Outstanding Achievements in Cancer Research. He conducted seminal research and showed leadership in the field of stem cell research, including helping to provide the first proof that cancer stem cells are not created equally.

Distinguished Service Award

Mr. Bob McDonald (CBC News Network) received the award for Distinguished Service to Cancer Research for his dedication to science education and communication through radio as a broadcaster and author.
